Hi,

i made a map for nightfire but it it is not final but alfa.

 

It should also work with version 1.0 because i cutted it intwo pieces without the need of adjusting the -hunk and -heap settings.

This is by far the most unoptimized barf of a map i have ever seen, no offense. Not only does it instantly crash Gearcraft's renderer if you enable model rendering, he has arches that create 1000s of portals without being so much as tied to a detail brush. this guy seriously needs to learn how to optimize a map. this is unbelievable and i have no idea how he was even able to get them to compile.


Before you start attempting to make complex geometry you must learn how to optimize a map. This is why hunk/heap is required. A large map doesn't need to require a hunk/heap memory increase.


The maps honestly have a really cool design to them. I really like how it's a city. The problem is optimization.


#2, he has a skybox completely covering the entire map. This is beginner mappers #1 mistake

Here is an example of an extremely optimized map's portals:


Notice how you can't hardly see a single portal? This map compiles VIS in under 1 second. literally.

Hi,

im not a good mapper that's true.

 

Maybe the Gearcraft crashes due to not having the the v11 models (bond\maps\models) installed.

 

I compiled the map with the nfbsp compiler Dyna gave me years ago using standard normal settings and part 1 compiled in about 6 minutes and part 2 in about 2 minutes.

 

If someone is interested i can upload the .rmf / .map files and the v11 modells for the gearcraft.

 

Some of them have animated sequences.

 

@ Baggy: Regarding the blue flag,,, i accidently ate it :)

 

@Kry: You will have to click on the yellow "Oui" at the page opening when you click the link.

sure there are some bugs in it (you can walk through some models, blue flag is eaten by map creator, on some bigger places is simply "nothing"^^ etc) but for an alfa-version its really good.

i love the music, the one map with grapple is cool for pjump, nice models, "big" map etc. hope to see the map one day on war-server :)

in gearcraft use edit - toggle detail state to create a detail brush (in hammer you tie to func_detail instead)

Hi,

 

I have trialed around by error and somehow managed it to reduce the portals. I think some things doesn't work for Nightfire or i didn't get it. Thanks for the hint with the "toggle detail state in gearcraft". Unfortunately the lightning and shadows on the arches aren't looking good but there's a turtle in it now. I hope it will comepnsate.

Hi,

dang, the old links aren't working anymore. This has a reason. I deleted them... in order to make space for the actual alfa 3 release of the bahnhof 2.

I played around a little bit and a few screenshots and a download of the actual alfa are below.

I am a NooB.

Positive and (no offensive) negative critics are welcome :)

Aaand.. please never ever even think about shooting at turtles, that is the most important thing, i think that's all to say.

theres a lot of "life" in the map, moving train, workers etc.

turtle rulez! beer and sceletor too

now blue + red flag juhu

but i dont like the big space in the flag-rooms. and theres no grapple point. pjumpers will fuck everyone in this map who cant pjump.

there's a restroom in it now and some grapple points. Yurdle is still undefeated :)

It is alpha and not final, this has a reason. The reason is, it's not final, but alpha.

this map is reallyyy good ! :)


nice new lights, bathroom is clean, grapple hooks to get to rafters or to assist pjump. 

Here is me(aka baggylotto) on a lantern. how to get down?

suggestion;

ticket booth (to buy train tickets?)

small control room(maybe by red side since blue side has restrooms already) to operate trains safely and direct the traffic.
